School Psychology Advocacy
In this era of financial crisis, school districts around the state are coming under increasing budgetary pressures. We’re already seen significant cuts to staff and programs in some of our more financially-strapped districts. And school psychologists have already been impacted by these cuts: we know of at least one school district which has already cut 40% of its school psychology staff.Due to these concerns as well as other issues such as privatization and our limited opportunity to bill for Medicaid services, MASP has prepared a public relations/awareness campaign to assist you in promoting your role as a school psychologist and the value you bring to your school community.
You will find links to the following documents:
- "What is a School Psychologist?" handout. (produced by MASP)
- A PowerPoint presentation provided by NASP which highlights communication and advocacy strategies.
- A PowerPoint presentation template designed for use during School Psychology Awareness Week which focuses on the various roles and functions of a school psychologist; this can be adapted and individualized for your school setting and can be used for other purposes of advocacy.
- Two sample tip sheet newsletters, combined into one document, which may be distributed to staff members in your schools.
