1. What is the purpose of the MASP Under-represented/Minoritized Student Scholarship?

The purpose of this scholarship is to support and encourage the development of a more diverse and representative group of future school psychologists in Michigan. The award provides financial assistance to graduate students from underrepresented or minoritized backgrounds who are pursuing a degree in school psychology within the state.

2. What does “underrepresented/minoritized identity” mean for this scholarship?

For the purpose of this scholarship, underrepresented or minoritized identity includes individuals who identify with one or more of the following groups:

  • American Indian/Indigenous

  • Black or African American

  • Asian

  • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander

  • More than one race

  • Arab, Middle Eastern, or North African origin

  • Latino/Hispanic origin

  • Individuals with disabilities, particularly low-incidence or underrepresented conditions (e.g., deafness, blindness, mobility-limiting physical impairments)

  • LGBTQ+

  • Other backgrounds not listed

We recognize that identity is complex and evolving. This list may be revised as additional data and perspectives are considered.

3. Who is eligible to apply for this scholarship?

Applicants must:

  • Reside in Michigan

  • Be enrolled in or accepted to a graduate program in school psychology in Michigan (full or part time)

  • Be at least pursuing a Master’s, Education Specialist, or Psychology Specialist degree in school psychology

  • Identify as part of an underrepresented or minoritized group

4. Can first-year graduate students apply?

Yes. First-year students may apply if they have been accepted to and committed to a school psychology graduate program in Michigan beginning in Fall 2026.

5. Are students in their internship year eligible?

Yes. Students entering their internship year in Fall 2026 are eligible to apply.

6. How much is the scholarship award?

At least one scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded. Depending on available funding, additional awards may be considered.

7. When is the application deadline?

All application materials must be submitted by June 15, 2026.

8. When will the scholarship recipient be selected?

The final recipient(s) will be selected in September 2026.

9. How and when will the scholarship be awarded?

The scholarship will be formally presented at the MASP Fall Conference in October or November 2026.

10. Do I need to attend the MASP Fall Conference to receive the scholarship?

While attendance at the MASP Fall Conference is encouraged to celebrate your achievement and connect with professionals in the field, it is not required. If the recipient is available to attend, their conference registration will be covered.

11. Can I apply if I attend a school psychology program outside of Michigan?

No. Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted to a school psychology graduate program located within Michigan.

12. Can I apply if I attend a school psychology program in Michigan, but reside in another state?

No. Applicants must be a Michigan resident, and enrolled in or accepted to a school psychology graduate program located within Michigan.

13. Can I apply if I identify with more than one underrepresented group?

Yes. Applicants are encouraged to share all aspects of their identity that are meaningful to them.
